Last call to local businesses to apply for a winter pop-up trading space

Local businesses are invited to apply for one of the pop-up outdoor trading spaces in Adur and Worthing this winter. The closing date is midday on Monday 19th October 2020.

Following on from the success and popularity of the pop-up food and drink traders on the seafront this summer, Adur & Worthing Councils are extending its seasonal concessions programme into the winter. This comes at a time when many businesses, particularly in the hospitality sector, are struggling to operate indoors due to the COVID pandemic.

The pop-up outdoor trading spaces, which are available at a range of spots including Worthing seafront, offer local businesses the opportunity to trade safely in the open air, and forms part of the Councils' programme of work to support local businesses to get up and running again in response to the pandemic. Applications are invited from local businesses that are 'ready to trade' to take advantage of the October half term. Successful applicants will be informed by Friday 23rd October 2020 to start trading the following week.

The Councils have also introduced new attractions to Worthing seafront to draw visitors, including two creative exhibitions hosted in seafront shelters and an art gallery made from stone-filled gabions.

Cllr Kevin Jenkins, Executive Member for Regeneration for Worthing Borough Council, said:

“We're delighted to be able to continue to support local traders over the winter months to operate in this challenging climate. Our seafront, with the new art attractions in place to draw visitors, provides a great opportunity for local businesses to operate safely.”

Cllr Brian Boggis, Executive Member for Regeneration for Adur District Council, said:

“Building on the success of the pop-up traders who have been operating on our seafront and in our towns this summer, we're increasing the number of spaces we can offer to local businesses across Adur throughout the winter as a way to support them to thrive during these difficult times.”

This work forms part of “And Then ...”, the Councils' short, sharp programme of interventions and assistance to help the communities of Adur and Worthing bounce back from the impact of lockdown.
